The people behind the scenes who are programming, developing, thinking, and planning for the future should be considered the true heroes in this modern era of ours, as it is these technology enthusiasts that will play the biggest roles in ensuring that our future is bright and that it continues to move in a positive forward direction. If we want to ensure that technology continues to evolve positively along with society, then we need to place a priority on the educations and careers that will make it possible.

How safe is this document I am downloading?

Most people are very trusting when they open up their email. It is like getting a Christmas present every morning. You never know if your daughter sent you a greeting card or if your long lost cousin from Sweden will finally get in contact. Before you click download attachment, the most important thing you can do is stop and think about what you are doing.

If you just stop and think before you click on a document you were not excepting from Susie, you could save yourself the heartache of dealing with a slow computer, the blue screen of death, having to system restore, or dealing with identity theft. Downloading attachments from email is one of the best ways to open up your computer to disaster without even knowing it. The next time you download an attachment think before you click. If you do not know who it is, do not click. If your sister sends you a link in an email, call your sister and than click if she sent it to you.

Instead of opening documents straight from your email, download them to your hard drive and than open it. If there is a virus or spyware, the protection you have in place will prevent it from opening and delete the file. Always make sure that your Internet protection is updated and working correctly. This is the best way to prevent problems and stop them from occurring.

Ways to keep your laptop safe while traveling with it

Whether it is a road trip with the girls, flying to Michigan to visit family or to going to see a client, you will take your laptop along. Whatever your reason for traveling, keep your laptop safe from harm and theft. Here are several things to remember when flying, riding, or driving.

First, leave the computer bag at home. Nothing screams, I have a laptop with me, like a computer bag. Instead, put your computer in a large bag, brief case, or suitcase. This will also minimize your chances of getting something stolen because bigger bags are harder to hide and move with.

Second, know where your laptop is while you are traveling. Never put a laptop in checked luggage, this is a perfect place for it to get broken or stolen. Do not put the bag on the floor. Either hold it between your legs as you wait for airport security to move along or attach it to your luggage as you wait to check-in. Leaving it with the front desk or in your car when you go to a restaurant is a bad idea.

Third, be smart what you have with your laptop. Do not keep email passwords or your network configuration number and password in your bag. If you do not need it, leave it safely at home.

Fourth, add another level of security to your computer by encrypting your data and make it harder for a thief to enjoy their plunder. Encrypting your data is easy with Windows 7 computers by simply changing various folders property settings. This prevents people from seeing information they should not be viewing that could put you, company, and your family at risk.

Fifth, purchase a security cable for your laptop that can secure your laptop to heavy tables or chairs. You can also find software that will transmit a signal if your laptop is ever stolen. Take these precautions in order to prevent that from happening.
