Protecting yourself from viruses downloaded with Microsoft Word documents

Do you know that it is possible for a Microsoft Word document to have a virus attached to it? When downloading the document, you also give any viruses’ access to your computer and information. There are number of ways to protect you from online threats.

Virus attached to Microsoft Word documents are most easily passed through emails. People do not see simple documents as ways for viruses to attack. Unfortunately, it happens this is why you need to be screening your email before you open it. If you do not recognize the sender or do not know why they would be sending you a document do not open it. It is possible for hackers to program viruses to email the virus throughout a person’s email contact list.

Instead of opening the document straight from the email, download it and save it to your desktop. Only do this if you have virus and spy-ware protection, which you should have if you want your computer to work correctly. You give your scanners the ability to screen a document before you open it if it encounters your hardware. They are designed to protect your computer, but it has to be saved to your computer beforehand. If the document is corrupt, the scanner will immediately delete the document and take care of the virus.

Most emails use a virus scanner to scan emails and attachments before they are clear to download. Let these scanners run and if they cannot state if the document is clean or not, do not download. Instead, reopen the browser and reopen the email. Do not ever click on links from people you do or not know. This is one of the most common ways for viruses to move from email to email. One of the best ways to protect yourself against this threat is to delete emails where you do not know the sender.
